The past few months have been incredibly challenging physically, mentally, and emotionally, as the global pandemic upended our lives. In our latest WFH Series, we’re asking members from our community to share how they’re staying sane and well during this time, how they’re managing their stress and anxiety, and WFH tips and wellness hacks.
Today, Kate Glavan (@kateglavan), a law student at NYU who is passionate about raising awareness for environmental justice through her platform, shares her WFH routine and how she’s taking care of her wellbeing.
WHAT’S YOUR MORNING ROUTINE THESE DAYS?
A morning walk around West Village to catch up on the news, while listening to daily news podcasts. Or I will go on a long run for headspace. After that, I enjoy taking my time to make a tonic or coffee–plus a breakfast of pancakes, usually spiked with Wylde One blends.
WHAT’S YOUR BIGGEST STRUGGLE WFH?
Staying connected to my family who’s all home in Minnesota, while I’m in school in New York City at NYU.
HOW ARE STAYING SANE WFH?
Going on 20 minute walks to break up my day, baking and cooking up new vegan recipes, taking time to facetime friends and family, reading books that have been on my shelves. Also taking time for self-care with foam rolling my muscles out before bed, taking care of my skin, and sharing news and politics to others on Instagram and through my own newsletter.
WHAT WELLNESS RITUALS DO YOU SWEAR BY?
Daily walks are my main form of wellness. I’ve been vegan for almost 4 years–and I’ve found it has provided such mental clarity by eating a wide variety of plant foods. Running is my favorite form of exercise.
WHAT ARE YOU READING OR LISTENING TO?
I love anything politics related. My favorite podcast is the Ezra Klein Show and Vox’s The Weeds for policy-related information. Reading the news and staying informed on politics may be stressful to some, especially during this time, but this is the type of work that I try to use my platform to bring awareness to for those who just want snippets or a digestible summary of what’s happening. Politics keeps me fueled and curious about how we can build a more just future and inclusive world.
FAVORITE WFH RECIPE:
Pancakes!!! :) I use 1/4 cup of garbanzo bean flour to 1/4 cup of plant milk. I add in Immune Shrooms, maca powder, vanilla, cinnamon to taste (sweetener if needed). I’ll spoon out the pancake batter over low-medium heat and flip once bubbly! I love this flour because it doesn’t require a vegan egg substitute–it naturally binds so well on its own with liquid!
